Brief Childhood History: Aurelia lives quite happily in a country house outside of Oxford with her witch mother, Joanna Marcus and her squib stepfather Nathaniel Kale, who she loving refers to as “The Professor.” Her parents are both life time academics. Joanna, after completing her Hogwarts education (in the same class as Nathaniel’s sister), turned to historical research for work and found a lovely niche in the sorting (magical from non-magical) ancient artifacts and reconstruction artistry. After coming to terms with his lack of magical ability, Nathaniel enrolled in muggle schooling and has since become one of England’s premiere psychologist. Her parents’ first notion of Aurelia’s powers were her tendency to acquire things (mostly biscuits) out of her reach unaided and her uncanny ability to guess who was calling on the telephone before it was answered. (There was a long debate in the household as to whether or not it was just good guessing or a magical gift, before Aurelia admitted to reading the names off the caller ID, after a good giggle of course.)
Their home is very loving and happy. The Kales are very attentive and make a great effort to be close to Aurelia, without spoiling her. They take great pride in their family traditions, however silly they maybe. Wordplay is a common family activity, as is family game night, trips to the museum, and yearly vacations. They are a very warm and welcoming family and often host graduate students studying under Nathaniel to stay with them in their home. (Yes, these poor graduate students are subjected to family game night as well). Aurelia attended regular muggle grammar school and studied (but didn’t practice) any some very basic charms and potions with her mother.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Aurelia is very accepting of others and she can be very sweet at times. She’s relatively bright and genuinely interested in learning. She will do well in Charms and Divination.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Her loving parents have sheltered her to some degree, and this has left her naïve to many things about the world. Although she is slow to anger, she holds grudges for long periods of time. She’ll struggle with Defense Against the Dark Arts because it will make her uncomfortable. She’ll also struggle with transfiguration.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: I think Aurelia belongs to Hufflepuff. She was raised to value loyalty, and compassion. I think her personality is best suited to fit in with other Hufflepuffs.
