Brief Childhood History: Ashling was born at a hospital in Waterford, Co. Waterford, Ireland to Lonan and Brigid Barrow. For ten years, she grew up on a farm just north of her birthplace, never really believing in much of anything magical.
She did everything without magic, but every once in a while something odd would happen. She usually dismissed it as some form of Fey (the few magical creatures she did believe in) mucking about, instead of considering that she might have some magical ability.
Growing up on a farm, Ashling found that she had an easy time with animals, harboring a natural talent for animal empathy. "A way with beasts," was the way her father and other neighbors termed it. She never could explain why, but animals just made more sense to her than humans did. She also found that she was a quick study at most anything, and was soon a skilled on horseback. Her ability to learn quickly also helped her with identifying plants that grew naturally in the area. It didn’t take her long to learn which mushrooms were safe to eat, and which were poisonous. She also learned very quickly to avoid mushrooms and small stones arranged in a circle after the particularly unpleasant experience of stepping into a faerie ring.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Ashling is good with plants and cooking with them, giving her a natural edge in Herbology and Potions. Her normal temperament is calm and kind, and she considers herself to be rather intelligent.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): She is quick to anger under the right circumstances, and is extremely loyal to her family. Her world has always been very tangible. Subjects like divination, which require her to believe in something she cannot make a physical reality, are more difficult for her.
