Brief Childhood History: Gilbert comes from a family which has a healthy mixture of halfbloods, muggles, and even a few purebloods here and there. He is the third born out of four- having three sisters. His elder sisters are still in Hogwarts, in fourth and second year. His little sister is only nine years year old. Gilbert’s mother works at St. Mungo’s as a healer and his father is a “chimney sweep” in the wizarding world- he cleans out and repairs fireplaces connected to the floo network.
He grew up in the company not only of his sisters, but also playing with his plethora of cousins and often spending time with other family members while his parents were at work. (His oldest sister is not yet allowed to babysit her siblings.) Gilbert always had fun staying with his relatives, and really enjoyed playing with the cousins who were older than he was- because he got to learn from them. He has a great relationship with his sisters, and always goes to them for advice and hopes that he can be as successful as they are. He is also protective of his little sister.
Gilbert’s relationship with his parents is also a good one. Though there are a lot of kids, and not a lot of extra money to be had, they are happy. They live within their means, and have enough extra money to go on outings and do fun things on a semi-regular basis. Both of Gilbert’s parents are very active in the lives of their children and very encouraging. He has very few bad memories, and has learned great morals from his parents.
Prior to Hogwarts his education was handled by his parents. They taught him how to read and write and the basics in mathematics and about the magic world so that he would be prepared to enter school and do well in his subjects. They also impressed upon Gilbert what matters is that he does his very best and works hard- and if he does that, he will always be proud, whether he gets all O’s and E’s in his classes or not.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Like the typical Hufflepuff, Gilbert is very hard working. He has a surprising attention span for a boy of eleven, and sees most tasks through to the end. Gilbert has a few hobbies which reflect this- including puzzles, putting together models, and reading. He is also a good and loyal friend. Gilbert is very good at committing things to memory, often recalling trivial facts he has picked up through reading or from listening to his parents talk.
Classes which are easiest for Gilbert, and which he excels in, are those that require less wand work. Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Astronomy are his favorite classes. He does the best in Herbology and History of Magic. He sometimes struggles with the mathematics/measurements required for Potions and Astronomy.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Gilbert is hopelessly gullible. He believes almost anything that anybody tells him- whether it sounds a bit ridiculous or not. This also lends to Gilbert’s tendency to be a bit overdramatic. If he gets hurt- he is going to die, if he is struggling with a class then he is going to fail and never graduate Hogwarts!, if he has one good conversation with another person close to his age then they are going to become the best of friends. This makes Gilbert both particularly whiny and overeager. He definitely grates on the nerves of people unaccustomed to his behavior, and often without realizing it (he is a tad clueless).
Academically, Gilbert is not skilled with wand work. His wand can be finicky and often he doesn't have the confidence in himself to perform spells properly. Gilbert gets frustrated quickly when his spells don't turn out right, and tends to give up far too easily when he feels like he is doing a bad job.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: Gilbert is a Hufflepuff through and through. He is incredibly hard working and loyal to his friends. He's kind hearted and gentle, and lacks the signature traits of other houses.
