Brief Childhood History: Merrick is the one and only son born to Llewellyn and Rebbecca Larsen. He also has an older sister, Gwyn and a younger sister, Ceri. Their family you could say is an unusual one with Merrick's father being a muggle and his mother being a witch. His father works as an American business man out of Wales, and his mother works in the home and home schools her children. Being a witch in Wales among mostly muggle families, Rebbecca thought it best to raise her children her way. Merrick's childhood was a relatively quiet one, with not too many abnormalities. With his father being a business man, he was out traveling a lot keeping his family financially stable. Merrick missed his father when he would leave and at times, felt he had to grow up quite early to be “the man of the house” with his father absent. He took this role very seriously and would try his best to keep an eye on everyone and everything. His sister Gwyn would get rather frustrated with him as she felt, being the oldest, she should more so be in charge so they would argue frequently. Merrick always felt closer to his Ceri as they were closer in age and she looked up to him.
With his father being gone so frequently, Merrick had the opportunity to become quite close with his mother. Having only one son, Rebbecca worked hard to raise him as a respectable young man. However, often times as much as she would push her son, he would rebel back. It wasn't like he didn't listen; he just had to do things his way. Merrick has always been very opinionated and his mother contributed that character trait to his father. As much as they butted heads, they were still pretty close. He was always able to talk to his mother about anything and she seemed very happy to share her passion for magic with her son. His parents decided early on that they would introduce their children to the muggle world and the magic world. When their children became of age, they wanted them to “choose” what direction in life they would follow. His older sister, Gwyn chose to pursue a muggle education by going to a University. She never really understood magic and has always felt more at home with muggles.
Merrick on the other hand has always been fascinated with magic! He and his younger sister, Ceri thought it was intriguing and always wanted to learn more. Their mother was rather conventional in regards to housework and other odd jobs she did. She didn't really use magic unless she needed to. She did most things by hand and wanted to show her children that things can be done without the use of magic. When Rebbecca did magic, she would do it when Llewellyn wasn't home. It wasn't that he didn't approve, he just didn't fully understand the necessity for it. Merrick spent a lot of his free time reading some of the different books on magic that his mother had kept from her childhood. She too, was a past student at Hogwarts and would spend time telling her children all about her adventures there. Merrick and Ceri always wanting to hear more, but Gwyn pushed it aside. This also drew the family apart so to speak. Merrick never really felt complete living at home and hoped that going to Hogwarts would allow him to learn more not only about magic, but also more about himself.

Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Merrick has a strong willed personality with a gentle heart. He stands up for what he believes is right, and won't back down unless proven wrong. He is naturally smart, often thinking he doesn't need to study as the knowledge will just come to him. Merrick is very detail oriented and picks up on small things. He has always enjoyed reading, feeling it gives him new areas to open his mind. He is very adventurous and as a child would get into trouble for passing all the boundaries his mother had set for him. He has a genuine love for his sisters (even Gwyn) and will go to great lengths to keep them safe and make them happy. Merrick is really looking forward to History of Magic so he can gain more of an understanding of magic as a whole, and Charms as his mother taught him a bit of what she knew from her schooling days.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Often times, standing up for his beliefs has also gotten him in trouble. He isn't the type of person to back down easily, especially when he thinks he is correct. Many times, his family and few friends would get annoyed with his pompous attitude. He doesn't like to be corrected, but when proven wrong he will realize his mistake and try to move forward. Merrick is rather hard on himself and gets frustrated when he is wrong. He is a big dweller on the past, having a hard time forgetting his failures. As much as he criticizes himself though, he is able to look past the failures of others and love them for who they are. With being homeschooled his entire life, Merrick does have a harder time making friends. He comes across as quiet when first met, only able to open up to those he feels close to. His mother and sister Ceri, he feels, are the two people who know the person he really is. The classes he isn't looking forward to are flying as he is terrified of heights and Potions as he doesn't want to be judged for making mistakes in front of his classmates.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: I think that Merrick would best fit into Hufflepuff. He has a very protective side to him as he felt he needed to be the strong one in regard to his sisters. He is a friendly guy who enjoys meeting new people however, he only opens up truly to people he knows very well. When he does become close friends with someone, he will stand up for them in anything. Merrick is very loyal to those he loves. He doesn't particularly favor mean spirited people and tries to stay away from them at all costs.
