Brief Childhood History: Amber has spent her life going from foster home to foster home. Although her dad was a wizard, he left her muggle mother before Amber was even born – so Amber never knew about him. Her mother was young when she had her, so from birth Amber was straight into foster care. Though the carers she had always had.... let's say best intentions, they never really seemed to have much tolerance for Amber. The fact that she was always getting into trouble probably didn't help things. For reasons she couldn't explain, weird just seemed to happen to her. There was that time when she was playing hide and seek and she somehow managed to end up in the cupboard in the adults' restriced lounge. Or that time when a month's worth of cakes somehow ended up in Amber's room – because she'd been sent to bed without dinner. Or that time when the pet rabbit (who an eight year old Amber had been incredibly distressed about having to keep caged up) had somehow miraculously escaped, and was found dozing on Amber's bed. So sure, those things did sound like the sort of thing a naughty child might do – but Amber could swear she hadn't done them. The cupboard, the cakes the rabbit... they'd all just appeared there. But of course, no one would believe her- and she'd been moving from foster home to foster home a few times every year.
Having moved around so much, Amber was forever changing schools. She's been to around ten overall – transferring every six months or so. In her earlier years, Amber was one of the liveliest. She'd never stop talking, and got along with pretty much anyone. As she got older though, the other children had started to realise that she wouldn't be staying for long. After all – what can you expect from someone who's already been to a stack of different schools? She started finding it harder to get settled in and find close friends – no one wanted to risk having a best friend who'd probably leave within the next few months. So instead, she'd just flit from group to group, talking to pretty much anyone. Some lunches she'd just sit and entertain herself: drawing and reading books. Sometimes she'd find the pages of her book turning by themselves – on days without any wind, or find her drawings seeming to move when she looked at them in a certain way. But she convinced herself that it was just her imagination and went on with things.
Amber's letter from Hogwarts arrived scarcely weeks after her eleventh birthday, and she was overwhelmed with excitement. For once, she had the sense of belonging somewhere, of being wanted, of being needed. A chance to be able to make friends without having to leave them every few months! She'd never been more excited. A young witch, pink with excitement and clutching her new cherry and Phoenix wand – stumbling onto the hogwarts express. Home at last.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): In personality, Amber's strengths would be her bravery, loyalty and creativity. Amber would do anything for the people she trusts, always putting herself last. She's forever daydreaming, and bursting with ideas, never having a bored moment. Her eleven years of foster care haven't seemed to have affected her much – she's as chatty as ever. If anything, she's become more enthusiastic – compared to the neglect she was used to, Hogwarts seems like a dream. Subject-wise, Amber has a flair in Defence Against the Dark Arts. Though still young, she can be quick with a wand. Her quick-thinking makes dueling come naturally for her.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): As always, with bravery comes impulsiveness, and Amber is a prime example of that. She has a tendency to not really think things through, acting on impulse and regretting it later. She's scatterbrained and forever forgetting things – all her belongings are a jumbled mess, and she can never keep track of homework. She finds it hard to concentrate for long periods of time. That's probably the reason she finds transfiguration so impossible – she can never seem to focus her mind on just one thing. Her head is forever abuzz with a trillion different thoughts, so focussing on turning a matchstick into a pin? She can never seem to work it out!
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: I feel Amber would most suit Gryffindor. Though I did consider Hufflepuff – her loyal and optimistic side definitely suits it, I think Amber's impulsively and determination is too strong to slot into that house. Her bravery and lust for adventure suits Gryffindor perfectly.
