Starting on Monday, December 20th, the Yule Ball areas of the forum will be open! While your character doesn't have to attend the Ball (you can always say that they went home for the winter holidays IC), we encourage you to take advantage of this lovely time-honored, drama-llama social happening and get what character development you can from it.
Every member is entitled to
two extra IC threads in the
Yule Ball Forums for the event. You can always use a few of your normal five as well, so you should have more than enough slots for yuletide mischief!
The Yule Ball areas will consist of a Dance Floor forum, a Tables forum, and a Rose Garden forum for dancing, food, and a bit of fresh air. There will be a gift table for a random fun gift exchange set up by the buffet table, and Professors Sprout and Flitwick will be out in the garden selling flowers and corsages for St. Mungo's Children's Charity. The other professors will be out and about making sure that no one gets
too friendly under the mistletoe.
That's right! Our green and leafy mistletoe friends will be around for the next two weeks popping into [Open] threads at the Yule Ball and causing general green and leafy awkward moments! Watch out for those mistletoe, and watch your outfits because there
is a dress code for this formal of formal events.
Just like in East Ham, our Ball has a dress code. They were more worried about their dance floor's condition, of course, but as a school dance, Hogwarts is worried about general student appearance just like they always are. Shoes need to be formal and appropriate. (Please remember that it is not commonplace and/or healthy for 12 year olds to wear 5" Louboutin stilettos.) And yes, just in case you were wondering, sneakers are
not appropriate. Please make sure your characters are dressed spiffy enough to belong at a ball.
Like footwear, formal dress robes or suits are required for gentlemen and appropriate dress robes and dresses are required for ladies. Short cocktail dresses are not appropriate for a school dance. Please make sure that dresses are at least knee-length, cover what décolletage your school-age girl may have, and cover the majority of their backs as well. (If you're not sure if a dress is appropriate, err on the side of caution and PM a staff member to ask.) Also, please make sure that the aforementioned parts are also covered on all gentlemen. Professors don't want to see wannabe hairy chests.
If a professor finds a student's attire unacceptable, the student may either return to their common room by outting all of their Yule Ball threads or don a horribly ugly set of fuscia high-necked, floor-length dress robes with moth-eaten antique lace trim. House points may be taken, blah blah... Just have your character dress appropriately, okay?

In terms of out of character fun, we've got three contests and an activity for you to get involved in! In our Fan Art forum, you can request a Yule Ball Photo AV for your character, and you can join our Yule Ball Banner Contest! In our Fan Fiction forum, we're looking for your best Yule Ball-themed short stories, so write something up and enter our Yule Ball Fan Fiction contest there. Also, at our
HPRPG Polyvore group, we will be holding a Yule Ball Fashion Sets contest. Break out your character's formal wear and make it look snazzy~!
To find these and all official Yule Ball event threads, simply look for the snowflake message icon like the one featured on this announcement. Hope to see you all out and about enjoying these activities! Happy Holidays, Merry Yule, and a Happy New Year!
Love,
Your HPRPG Staff
