General Build: Average

Birthplace: Buckinghamshire, UK

Brief Family History:

Carver Miles Thurland was born the 3rd of December in the dusty woodland Ousden Grove manor spreading over twenty six acres. He was born to an elite clan of former well respected full-English Slytherins, Newel Thurland and Valla Genovese Goyle-Thurland. Carver remains to be the youngest within his family, as there are two older siblings, sisters by the names Demelza Zane and Daralis Adair Thurland, approaching their sixth and seventh years as Slytherins.

Carver grew up in a wealthy estate in Buckinghamshire, UK, alongside his two older sisters, pet snakes, parents and a full time live-in nanny, Bathilda. Carver's father, Aldrich, spends most of his time working as a somewhat unjust and rather ‘crooked’ Hit Wizard, while his mum is an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic. Carver’s parents are quite secretive and vague about their chosen careers and there is no discussion regarding their outside lives within the family. By saying that, it’s evident that Carver knows very little about his parents and find them to seem almost like strangers. All Carver does know is what their expectations of him are – which by no means does he agree or live up to them, even in the slightest.

Bathilda has remained, since his birth, to be the primary caretaker of the family, although despite her longevity with the Thurlands, is still continuously disrespected and taken for granted. It’s plain to see that growing up was very solitary for Carver. As a young child, Carver was prone to having behavioral problems and was kicked out of several private primary schools and within the last year has been home-schooled. Because Carver rarely gets to leave the manor, he has grown impatient and restless, pulling pranks and acting out against his home school teacher, Mr. Wellesley, a retired, cranky old half-blood who often fell asleep after tea mid-day, leaving Carver completely unattended.

With the increased amount of time Carver spent alone, he was left to explore his environment. Carver has become self-sufficient from having to do most things himself. Because Carver has spent so much time alone as a child, he often seeks excitement and attention from others. Carver very rarely associates with muggles and was brought up quite traditionally, observing magic and existing solely in the wizarding world. He knows very little about muggles or anything related to their world.

From his home schooling, Carver was taught both traditional subjects such as English, Maths and Sciences, as well as the content of magical subjects. Carver’s natural curiosity has lead him to exploration and with deeply-rooted feelings of abandonment and neglect from his parents, spent most of his childhood years misbehaving and charismatically talking his way out of punishment.

Strengths :

In terms of personality, Carver's strengths are for one, his charismatic nature. Despite his lack of human interaction at home, he has become the opposite in social settings. Carver can be quite the conversationalist, although there are no guarantees that his words are kindly. His demeanor is very cautious and carefully planned; he is by no means an impulsive individual and has a highly-developed sense of self-preservation, thinking things through entirely before acting upon them. Carver plays out in his head all of the possible outcomes and repercussions of his actions or words before he does or says them, deciding whether the potential consequence is worth it or not. He is also very resourceful with the determination and will power to succeed in whatever endeavors he decides to embark on, this meaning that whenever Carver aims to achieve something, he will stop at nothing to do so, even if that means that he has to lie, cheat, or hurt others to get there.

In terms of academia, Carver does well with anything hands-on. Carver understands things better when isn’t stuck in a chair, reading. He likes to take objects apart and put them back together to truly fathom how exactly said objects operate. Carver has a certain fascination with animals, specifically dangerous and rare animals. Carver can be quite lazy when the subject at hand does not interest him and therefore gets restless just sitting down and reading books for their content. Instead, he prefers interactive lessons that require him to learn through discussion or when said information is placed in real life examples. If there is one thing that Carver hates, it’s useless magic. He is most likely to excel in any of the following: Charms, Defense against the Dark Arts, Potions and Transfiguration. Care of Magical Creatures would also be considered a strong point of Carver’s, although this may be conflicting due to his blatant disliking of Rubeus Hagrid.

Weaknesses:

In terms of personality, Carver's weaknesses are certainly his behavioral problems. Carver often acts out against those who do not see eye to eye with him or anyone who stands in his way, really. Carver also enjoys bullying unsuspecting victims. In some ways people may see this as his silent and desperate need to seek attention, which is probably true, although Carver is deeply rooted in denial about himself. Carver can have a very careless attitude towards certain rules or societal norms and tends to operate in a way he sees fit, regardless of morale and sometimes, regardless of consequences. Carver can be fearless, which is seen as a negative trait because his lack of fear is what enables him to push boundaries. One of his least obvious characteristics is the way he can manipulate others who allow it. Carver tries to be deceptive and often gives people false impressions. It’s truly a challenge to get to know the real Carver Thurland.

In terms of Academia, any subject that requires long, boring lectures and silent reading will disinterest Carver immediately and he will, therefore, find himself doing poorly. Although animals fascinate him, Carver could care less about plants and will come to loathe Herbology. He will have trouble excelling in subjects such as Astronomy, History of Magic, Arithmancy and Ancient Runes – and would never even consider taking Divination. Although healing is very much hands on, Carver does not have a gentle nature and will find himself feeling indifferent toward it.

What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why:

It’s obvious that Carver belongs in Slytherin. He displays all the traits that would make him a perfect Slytherin candidate, and then some - although his future development may show other sides to Carver that are not yet present in his eleven year old self, he is still apt for Slytherin House and would fail miserably anywhere else. He's of pureblood decent with his family history residing with Slytherin on top of it. Carver's nature is very cunning but with a certain selfish drive to achieve greatness.
