Coren Starchaser - Approved [R]
« on: 23 Feb 2010, 04:23 pm »
First and Last Name: Coren Starchaser
Bloodline: Half-blood
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
General Build: Skinny
Height: Average
Birthplace: Cork, Ireland

Brief Family History:
Being born to a muggle father and magical mother had its perks. At a young age Coren was exposed to many different life styles. His mother, a Hogwarts graduate herself, was able to expose him to the magical world at a young age from her post in the Ministry of Magic's Naturalist Department. She travelled the world, watching wild magical species until she settled in Cork, and met Coren's father, who owned an extreme sports equipment shop. She now helps out with research at a local muggle academy.

As a child, Coren would spend much time exploring the local area around Cork, including surfing on Ireland's southwest coast. He was familiar with Quidditch but preferred the connection to nature and the soliitary of sports such as skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. His mother was an only child so Coren could only share what he learned about magic with his brother and parents, not the school children and not his cousins.  Coren's thirst for adventure made him very lax in his muggle school learning, especially in the departments of math and exact science where feeling wasn't the deciding factor.

When his Hogwarts letter arrived, both his parents were very excited. Their first born was a wizard. When his mother moved into the muggle world, she left behind all her magical money in Gringotts Bank in case either of her children were to ever be accepted into Hogwarts. Kathleen Starchaser was a Ravenclaw and could only hope the same for her son.

Strengths (Including Personality and Academic):
Coren never backs down from a challenge. With his father's sports tastes, Coren quickly became adept at surfing, snowboarding and other high-risk sports at a young age, aside from improving his balance, making him a prospect for a Quidditch team, he knows how to adapt and react to ever changing situations. Being in a select group of youngsters also gave Coren a sense of fair-play and a drive to help others when they needed it the most, whether it be in the line up, before a race, or against someone who doesn't see his friends are normal and instead sees them as something to be made fun of.

Controlling his emotions is another strong suit, his parents taught him to keep a clear head about himself and instead of letting emotional energy get the best of you, it helps to convert it into useful energy, for study, play or work.

Academically, Coren is stronger in classes that are difficult but not exacting, such as transfiguration, which may stem from his ability to turn what he wants to do into what is allowed during a sporting event, the studies of herbology and care of magical creatures are also strong suits for Coren, because of the trips his mother had taken him on to expose him to his magical side, and the magical side of the world. Coren also has skill in D.A.D.A. and Charms, able to defend himself and others using his intellect and wit.

Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic):
Coren has difficulting maintaining friendships, because of the friends he does have, they bonded by doing a range of sports together, that while it was worth sharing this time with others, was also just as enjoyable alone. If people don't understand Core, he is okay with that, he doesn't need to have small talk or "togetherness." Having a lot of aquaintances helped Coren beat jitters when travelling, but when he was in his home environment, he was perfectly comfortable away from people and with wild creatures and nature.

Aside from not being able to connect with others, Coren also has extreme trust issues. He knows that when the going gets tough many people just leave. He doesn't expect the best from people, always assuming they will betray him or will leave him high and dry. Coren's trust gets the better of him because when he worries he tends to lose control and focus over his magic.

Academically, Coren's weaknesses were translated from the mundane to the magical, as he was weat in potions, astronomy and arithmacy, all dealing with exacting calculations, words and ideas.

What House you feel the character belongs in and why
Coren would fit well in Ravenclaw. He has plenty of courage and nerve for Gryffindor, as well as being resourceful like a Slytherin, its Coren's common sense, intellect, wit and desire to learn more about the world around him, including the people and places he meets and travels to, that would place him in Ravenclaw as opposed to any other house.

Welcome to hprpg!

Your character sheet looks excellent, except for a few things I'm going to have to ask you to change before sorting.

For the height and general build sections, all we're looking for is a general answer, so please edit out the specific answers, and change them to one of the choices that was given on the character sheet model.  Please also remember that Coren is 11 when entering Hogwarts, and 5'1" is a bit tall for that age.

You did a great job on the strength section, but I was hoping you could add a little more to the weakness section about personality flaws.  The academic portion is fine, but you can't control how other people will react around your character, so I'd like to see some weaknesses that can be played out as he grows older (which can change as he develops), but something that won't involve godmoding later.

When you've made the appropriate changes, please change the topic from pending to edited and we'll continue from there. :)

You fixed one of the things I asked, but not the first.  Please take another look at the height and general build section, and use one word to describe Coren's.  When you've made those edits, change the subject from pending to edited again, and we'll continue from there. :D
