Relationship Guidelines
« on: 24 Nov 2009, 07:37 am »
The following are the relationship guidelines for all romantic actions roleplayed on our board. They were compiled after many complaints and suggestions submitted by members and many observations made by staff. They are intended to keep all content on the board appropriate for all of our members. (If you are looking for a forum to roleplay adult relationships on, our apologies, but this is not it!)

Year 1
Quote
As a first year, your character is 11 years old (turning 12 in most cases).  The following are normal/average relationship behaviors for an 11 year old and it is what we enforce here:

*At approx. age 11, children first begin to have crushes, or infatuations, on people of the opposite sex.
*General interaction between children of this age is with a group of people of the same sex, with limited interaction with those of the opposite sex in school and/or social settings.  These interactions are not intimate and not of a sexual nature.

Years 2 & 3
Quote
During your second and third year, your character's age varies from twelve to fourteen.  The following are normal/average relationship behaviors for this age group and it is what we enforce here:

*Group dating is a popular way to begin dating at this age because it allows adolescents to interact with the opposite sex while having the security of their friends around.
*This is also the stage in which youths begin to form crowds.  However, at this stage the crowds consist of several unisexual cliques having group to group interaction.
*This age group generally holds hands, gets embarrassed easily, tries to impress, but usually overdoes it, and usually does not go further than a kiss on the cheek or a simple peck.  These relationships tend to last no more than a month or two.

Years 4& 5
Quote
During your fourth and fifth year, your character's age varies from fourteen to sixteen years old.  The following are normal/average relationship behaviors for this age group and it is what we enforce here:

*At this age, friendships begin to form regardless of sex.  This means that boys will have friends that are girls and girls with have friends that are boys.  While that may occur prior to this age, it is commonplace by age fifteen.
*Group dating, while still popular, is beginning to fade.  Double dating and single dating becomes more popular.
*At this point, more steady relationships begin to form.  Instead of a few weeks, relationships can last for a few months, possibly even a year or more, though that is not quite as likely.
*This age group tends to be more about a physical relationship than an emotional relationship.  Holding hands, kissing (generally the non-french variety ;) ), wanting to be with each other, and flirting a lot are normal actions.  Generally, however, there is not much emotional depth, which is why these relationships tend to fade the longer the couple stays together.

Years 6 & 7
Quote
During your sixth and seventh year, your character's age varies from sixteen to eighteen years old.  The following are normal/average relationship behaviors for this age group and it is what we enforce here:

*Both boys and girls tend to name members of the opposite sex among their best friends.  *Single dates are popular among boys but girls still tend to prefer double dates.
*This age group tends to be both physically and emotionally attached when in a dating situation.  Any actions beyond basic holding hands, kissing, and PG rated romance may be alluded to, but may not be acted out on this board.

IF YOU AREN'T SURE IF IT IS OK - DO NOT PLAY IT OUT.

If you have any questions, PM an administrator.

Just a small clarification, amendment:

Your character can only be romantically involved with another character if they are one school year within age of each other, until they reach 5th year. At this point, they are allowed to be involved with characters who are 5th, 6th, or 7th, as well.  Please note that you will be expected to follow the guidelines for the younger member of the couple.
