Brief Childhood History: Maya grew up with her parents quite unaware of the wizarding world. Her family led a normal life in Edinburgh until Maya (at the age of 5) ended up getting caught high up on top of her parent's fridge eating the cookie her mother had denied her. Her mother could not comprehend how her daughter had reached such a height in so short a time, and was nearly hysterical with fear for her daughter's safety. This incident led to Maya's father confessing that he was a wizard, but had chosen to live his life with his muggle wife and without magic. This incident helped form much of Maya's personality and opinions, specifically on matters of love, loyalty, and magic.
Maya and her family continued to live their life as any muggle family would. Magic was never truly explored and although not a taboo subject in their household, it was something was decidedly ignored. Maya was an adventurous and curious child growing up, which led to several accidental underage magic use (nothing out of the ordinary for a witch child), which was where most conversations about magic and control stemmed from. Maya, although curious about the wizarding world and the magic she seemed to possess, understood the boundaries her father set for such things and soon accepted that she would prefer to be "normal" than a witch.
It was not a surprise to Maya's father that a Hogwart's letter had arrived for her. Maya herself was torn between wanting to stay in her normal muggle life, and exploring a new, exciting and interesting world of magic and the unknown. In the end, her parents' urging her to accept the invitation to the school led to her now new life as a student of magic.
Overall, Maya has maintained her childlike personality throughout her life thus far. She enjoys creating adventures when none seem to find her. To those around her, she is very playful, fun loving child who is well on her way to discovering herself. Although she is apprehensive about much of everything having to do with the wizarding world, it will only be a matter of time before she finds herself completely entranced by it all.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Maya is very active. Once she sets her mind to something, she is going to do it. She is also someone who wants to learn what she can. She finds comfort in knowledge. Academically, she excels in Charms, Transfiguration, and...given her background... Muggle Studies.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Maya can be very self centered at times. She gets very caught up in things and doesn't want to take the time to focus on anything or anyone else. She also has issues with acknowledging others' limits. She is a person who willingly drives herself into the ground to accomplish something, and just cannot understand why others will not do the same. If she thinks they can do more, but they won't, she gets frustrated easily and isn't afraid to show it. Academically, she has trouble with Divination and History of Magic.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: Maya is a Hufflepuff. She is the type of girl to give anyone a chance and tries not to let others' opinions influence her too much. She would much rather learn from the person who they are and make her own conclusions from there. Also, as with most every Hufflepuff, she is fiercely loyal... at times to a fault. Once she has put her faith into someone, it can take a lot for her to back out of that faith. How easily that faith is earned however, is dependent on her initial and continued interactions with people.
