Jillian Tao - Approved [H]
« on: 24 Sep 2011, 09:20 pm »
First and Last Name: Jillian Tao.

Bloodline: Half-Blood.
Hair Color: Black.
Eye Color: Brown.
General Build: Petite.
Height: Short.

Birthplace: Hastings, East Sussex County, England.
Brief Childhood History:

Born into a Chinese-British family, Jill had a fairly normal childhood.  Her muggle father owned his own florist shop in the town of Hastings and her witch mother managed to hide her magical background by pretending to be a housewife; in truth, she actually worked at the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.  Neither made much money (or, at least, much muggle money) but the family was content and put little emphasis on material things. Her dad, knowing she would one day be whisked away to some magical boarding school, tried to give her a more muggle childhood before that time.  She was enrolled in a muggle school and was taught to suppress her magic in front of the other children, though this proved to be very hard as the years went on.  Jill grew up like the usual rambunctious little girls, scraped knees and all; she learned things like riding a bike and enjoyed helping her father with his plants and his shop.  The Tao family was known to be very tight-knit and close, and Jill would often spend time with her parents rather than the children in her neighborhood.

Despite having an enjoyable time on the muggle side of her life, as she got older her interest in magic grew steadily.  Countless nights she would flip through her mother's books to read the different spells she would soon learn; she even became engrossed in Quidditch, asking her mother to buy her books on the sport and even a toy broom, unfortunately for her, she had horrible balance and resigned to enjoy Quidditch from a spectator perspective instead of aspiring to be a Quidditch player herself.  Eventually, she received her Hogwarts letter much to the delight of her mother, who was eager to see Jillian's magical knowledge expand.  Her father, however, was a bit more upset, being unsure as to consent to sending his only daughter off to boarding school or not.  He eventually let up when he witnessed her joy at buying her school supplies in Diagon Alley, and she's currently beside herself waiting to board the Hogwarts Express.

Strengths:

One thing Jillian prides herself on is being very handy and hands-on.  Having helped her father countless times with his gardening and florist business she's accustomed to, if not completely comfortable, getting a bit dirty and scruffed up.  She expects her past experience with muggle plants will help her with Herbology, and she strongly believes it will be her best subject when she attends Hogwarts.  Jillian, for the most part, is a very good judge of character and is confident with her decisions. You rarely find her second-guessing herself or being indecisive, when she settles on something it's usually that: settled.  Incredibly passionate about her interests, she'll pour her all into something if she really enjoys it or feels it's important.  Jillian is excited to attend Care of Magical Creatures class in the near future, as it's hands-on and more manual like Herbology, no doubt she'll excel in that subject as well.  Defense Against the Dark Arts also interests her, probably because the subject deals with offensive magic and how to protect yourself rather than memorizing useless facts or passages from books, something that bores Jillian completely.

Weaknesses:

Long nights reading from a book and writing out paper after paper is something Jillian dreads, which will possibly lead to her failure in History of Magic.  It's a subject she knows, instinctively, she won't be good at along with classes that require a lot of concentration such as Transfiguration and Potions.  One thing about Jillian you should know is that if she's barely invested in something, she'll subconsciously stop paying attention and will get lost or continually put it off.  Another trait that puts people off is her tendency to hold a grudge; having a fairly good memory she rarely, if ever, forgets a wrong someone has committed against her and will remain stubbornly cold to that person until she feels like talking to them again.  Admittedly, she's lost many friends this way. Jillian has a lot of pride (not about blood or her house, or anything of that sort) but a lot of pride in herself.  If she engages in a debate with someone, she'll often argue unnecessarily just so she doesn't have to admit that she's wrong... even if she is.

What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why:

Though fiery and passionate for the most part, she's very much a Hufflepuff at heart.  She believes in fair play and doesn't condone cheating or bad sportsmanship (even if she's guilty of it sometimes).  Jillian is very accepting of other people and their views/opinions and wouldn't start a fight over something as petty as blood purity or who's smarter.  To Jillian, getting into a debate is one thing, but starting an argument for the sake of arguing is unacceptable.  She would prefer getting to the top by her natural ability and intelligence, rather than tearing people down in order to build herself up.

Hi and welcome to hprpg, and sorry that your sheet got lost in the shuffle somehow.  :sweatdrop:

There are a few small things I'm going to have to ask that you edit before we can proceed, though. Uncontrolled magic is exactly that. Uncontrolled.  Jillian would not be able to make anything do tricks, or make anything fly, since she hasn't been taught any spells before Hogwarts. That would be against the secrecy laws. xD

Once you've made your changes, please switch your subject line from 'pending' to 'edited' :D

all my love for Tany
