Brief Childhood History: Nia Evans was born in Ceredigion, Wales. Her parents, Aderyn and Dylan Evans, were thrilled at the birth of a baby girl. At birth, it was revealed that she was born with two different colored eyes. This worried her parents but it was checked over by a doctor and nothing was wrong, she was just born with heterochromia. She is the only girl of the family and has one older brother, Eurig (age 23), and three younger brothers: Alec, Marc, And Patric who are triplets (age 5). Nia's mother and father work together at a marine rehabilitation sanctuary that they took over from Nia's grandfather, who started it. Dylan, her father, is a marine biologist and often is out on a boat learning and exploring the things of the ocean and Aderyn, her mother, is the caretaker of the animals they find and rehabilitate, and also home schools her children. Eurig, their eldest son was at university studying engineering, however, was called home to help the family when the triplets were born. Nia's neighbors, the Rurics, have always been a large part of their lives. Anna Ruric and Aderyn (Nia's mother) had been best friends since childhood and always made sure to stay close while growing up and getting married. When Aderyn and Dylan took over the marine sanctuary it was no surprise that the Rurics agreed to help out and moved close to work there with them.
The Rurics had one child, Toby, who was born on the same day as Nia, hours apart. Growing up together Nia and Toby were inseparable, they were the best of friends and did everything together. They loved coming up with their own stories and adventures and pretended they were in their own world, just the two of them. Both Nia and Toby were smart for their age and loved to read fantasy books which helped their creativity in coming up with their own world. Nia's father took a liking to Toby and always favored Nia (as she was his only daughter) so he often took them out on his boat to show them all kinds of new things. They felt very special being able to go with Dylan and always looked forward to those adventures. Everyone's world was turned upside down, however, one winter day. Dylan had taken the two kids on the boat, as usual, and they went out on an expedition. Nothing out of the ordinary happened while they were out in the ocean; it was upon returning that something went terribly wrong. While docking, Toby lost his footing and fell into the frigid water. Everyone scrambled to get him out, which they succeeded in doing; however he passed away not long after from sickness because of the cold. After that day, Nia immediately withdrew from the world around her and became very emotional and closed off. Currently, it being a year after Toby’s death, Nia hasn’t made much improvement with making new friends. Her parents worried for her and decided it best that she should begin school and start meeting new people.
Nia was not thrilled at the idea of attending school as she knew she would be surrounded by people, and after losing Toby she felt awkward with others. Nia took comfort with the animals at the sanctuary as it seemed to her they knew what she was feeling and were always there to make her smile. Nia liked to pretend the animals could talk to her and she enjoyed having conversations with them. Her brothers didn’t understand her fondness for the animals or her moodiness so they mostly stayed away from her. And likewise, as there was an age difference with all her siblings, Nia never felt a connection to them, and preferred being alone to being with them. Dylan, her father, was the one Nia would open up to and after losing Toby, she became even closer to her him. He was the one who explained everything to Nia and helped ease her pain with losing her friend. Soon enough strange things started happening to Nia when she got overly upset, things she couldn’t quite explain. When the owl appeared with her letter to Hogwarts, Nia was actually quite interested to learn more.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic):Nia is a very smart girl and picks up on things rather quickly. She has strong motivation towards things that interest her and will do whatever it takes to succeed in those areas. Nia is a bookworm and can find something interesting in anything she reads. She has a great imagination which helps fuel her creativity. Nia is a very hardworking girl and tries to keep herself busy. If she has too much time on her own, she often dwells on the past and her friend Toby. Nia likes to help out her parents and does all she can to stay busy. Nia will do exceptionally well in Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic):Because of the tragedy of losing her very close friend Toby, Nia is very closed off to new people. She finds it hard to open up to others because she fears everyone she allows herself to get close to will be taken away. Nia sometimes feels self conscious with her two different colored eyes as she knows no-one else like her. She is afraid of being made fun of by the other children. Nia is often a loner and finds more comfort in reading books or hanging around the animals rather than being with people. She desperately wants to open up to someone; however, she is terrified at the same time. Because of her smarts she often looks for ways or loopholes around the rules and oftentimes finds herself in trouble because of it. She is a very curious girl, which has gotten her into some interesting situations. As for classes, Nia isn't too interested in Astronomy or Divination
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why:I feel Nia will do well in Hufflepuff. She is a fairly easy going girl and very hard working. Nia is used to being busy as she helps at her parent’s sanctuary every day, however, she knows how to get things done quickly and efficiently. She is very reliable and once she gives her word she never turns on it. Even though she has trouble opening up to people, once she is a friend, she is extremely loyal and would do anything to help and protect them.
