Brief Family History;
Callum and videogames have had a long and passionate affair ever since the first time his three-year-old fingertips touched a controller. This, however, is unsurprising given that both of his parents are employed in that industry; his father as a game designer and his mother at an advertising company specialising in that area. It is, indeed, how they met – Silvia Yates was on her way to meet with some clients when she bumped into a rather dashing young man, successfully managing to spill water down his front. They hit it off immediately and minutes later Benjamin Fraser offered her his phone number just before they were separated to rush off to their different meetings. They didn’t speak until months later when Silvia finally worked up the courage to call, but have been inseparable since.

They conceived their first child, Daniel (20), on their Honeymoon on Safari in Africa twenty-one years ago followed quite closely by their second, Rory (19). The third, Madeleine (16), came after an interval of two years, and Callum was conceived after a considerable gap of five years as the couple hadn’t quite anticipated having another child, especially after the trouble they’d had with Maddie. Despite the age gap, Callum was always closest to Will out of all of his siblings, who considered himself a sort of third parent and developed a rather large soft spot for his younger brother, looking out for him whenever he was at home up until he left to go to university.

Despite any influence his siblings’ might have on him, however, his one true love remains, and has always been clear: videogames, and one in particular. At home, Callum frequently amused himself by judging the people walking down the street on whether or not he thought he could beat them in a Pokémon battle. On the rare occasion that someone looked invincible enough to pose a threat to his super-ultra-mega team, he’d treat them to a fairly icy glare, and if anyone were actually unlucky enough beat him for real, their name would be permanently etched on the ‘people Callum hates forever and ever’ list, never to be erased... unless, of course, they were willing to admit that it was all a fluke, because come on, his Blastoise is, was, and will always be pretty much invincible no matter which way you look at it.

There is, however, one vital aspect of his life that he will be missing when he arrives at Hogwarts: electricity. Without electricity, his game boy won’t work, and without his game boy working, there is no way he will be able to see his Blastoise for a whole term. Once he realises this, Callum is likely to slump into depression for a full ten minutes before realising he can do magic, and using magic... surely there’s a way to make Pokémon real? Or maybe, just maybe, they were real anyway and he just didn’t know it yet. That in mind, Callum has made it his ultimate mission to either find the Pokémon living in the world and become the Pokémon Master, or find a way to create them himself... and then become Pokémon Master. Oh yeah.

Strengths; Callum is friendly without a fault (unless of course you’re one of those few people who look extra-specially tough) and enjoys nothing more than striking up conversations with complete strangers, although it will usually be about something that interests him rather than anything the other person would care to listen to. Once he has made a friend, he is also undeniably loyal, and whilst he may not look or seem like it due to his loudness, is a master secret-keeper – one told to him by a friend is very, very unlikely to get out, because after all a true Pokémon trainer needs to keep their tactics to themselves so secret keeping is great practice! Academics in general aren’t his strong point, however he does try his very hardest in all of the practical lessons, especially Transfiguration as that avenue seems like the best one to pursue if he wants to achieve his ultimate life goal (which Callum insists needed to be underlined).

Weaknesses; An eleven year old boy as obsessed with Pokémon as Callum quite evidently is will hardly be mature, and Callum is definitely not an exception. His immaturity, however, lends itself to all situations and means that he is often unable to comprehend the severity of certain things, and can sometimes be unintentionally callous regarding other peoples’ feelings. When things go wrong, he ignores them instead of dealing with them, which in the long term can lead to much worse problems. Callum also has an incurable fear of heights after a bad experience when he was younger involving Rory, bunk beds, and hanging by his ankles, meaning that whilst he is quite happy to be athletic down on the ground Quidditch will never, ever be something he wants to participate in. Ever. Most subjects are his weak points academically, however this is not for lack of trying – Callum is not naturally intellectual, and often finds it difficult to grasp ideas, but he tries his best to remedy this, even if it is only just so that he can see a real, live Pokémon before he dies. His worst subject, however, would likely be Charms as he finds wand work the most difficult thing to grasp, and without the absolute drive and amount of effort he puts into Transfiguration, his grades are not quite as good.

What House; I think Callum would fit best in Gryffindor as one of the house traits – bravery – is something he definitely has in abundance. What kind of Pokémon master would he be if he wasn’t? Although this could, and probably is also partially credited to his loyalty, Callum will always stand up for his friends no matter the size, age, house or status of his opponent. For development reasons too, I think Gryffindor would be a good house as the chivalrous trait will hopefully help him to be more considerate of people in the future.
