Brief Childhood History: Jarek was born the middle child of Uriel Zaleburn and Natalie Zaleburn nee Briscoe. Both the Zaleburn and Briscoe family were old money meaning that Jarek and his two sisters never wanted for much during their early years. Jarek however would have a different upbringing than his sisters due to him being the only boy and thus his father, who was a diehard traditionalist, obvious heir. From an early age Uriel began introducing his boy to magic though not so as to break The Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. Jarek came to a gain a natural love for Charms and everything that had to do with them, deciding that they were the best part of magic. However teaching a child things and not expecting them to use it is nothing but folly as Uriel Zaleburn came to find out much to his own horror and disgrace.
It was just a little after Jarek’s tenth birthday that this incident occurred. The young boy had long been viciously teased and bullied by the Muggle children of Briscoeville. Most of them were the offspring of blue-collar workers and had inherited their parents’ resentment for the Zaleburns’ obvious wealth. They saw Jarek, short and skinny, as the perfect target. For a long time Jarek ignored it and refrained from mentioning the problem to his parents, knowing how much stock they put by personal strength. But at last Jarek could stand it no longer. After one fierce run-in in which Jarek was actually assaulted by one of the boys he used everything his father had taught to him about concentration and focused all his will into making that boy hurt………and he was successful.
Of course the Ministry of Magic knew at once about the situation and responded accordingly. While Jarek remained blameless in their eyes however, the incident would deeply scar the boy’s relationship with his father. Jarek eagerly counts down the days to Hogwarts, seeing excellence in school as the only road to winning back his father’s confidence.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic):Jarek has already learnt the value of working hard for what you want and that if you study hard you would always be rewarded. He is also a very conscientious planner and whenever he goes into a situation he makes sure to have a plan, a backup plan, and an ace in the hole. He does nothing haphazardly or capriciously. For the most part he is very academically inclined and loves learning on a whole, he especially excels in Charms and does extra well in subjects which require a lot of study such as Potions and Transfiguration.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Jarek is very neurotic, he overanalyzes situation, fuss about the smallest details, and adopts very poorly to change. He also goes out of his way to please his friends and family, sometimes leading to his being taken advantage of and even though he knows this he really doesn’t mind. Jarek really doesn’t cope very well with stress and sudden occurrences leading him to find DADA, which always incorporates the both of these, as a simply impossibly hard subject area.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: Though Jarek exhibits all the qualities of an ideal Ravenclaw student I just can’t help but feel that he would still be sorted into the Slytherin House, for his ancestry and his ambitions.
