Brief Childhood History: The Gardiner’s, a pureblood family originating from Cambridge, England; father, Warwick, a former auror at the ministry, currently working in an administrative position in the same department, earns enough to ensure that the family can live comfortably while his wife Niamh explores her interest in painting at home. Daphne is the second child of the couple, being younger than older brother Leonard by seven years and older than younger sister Collette by three. The siblings are rather close and were all home schooled before attending Hogwarts. Overall, the family could be described as rather traditional, with the girls being expected to behave in a ladylike fashion at all times and not conduct themselves in a way that is contrary to this, this is probably why Daphne’s eagerness to play quidditch doesn’t really sit all that well with her mother.
Despite being homeschooled, all three children have friends their own age outside of the family home, usually children of her parents’ friends. However, the siblings, with the exception of Leonard who has a few muggle and muggle born friends (who he met through Hogwarts and friends of his own friends) have had very little contact with the muggle world, leaving them pretty much clueless about what goes on outside the wizarding world, except for some knowledge gained through muggle literature which their parents have some interest in.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Drive is probably one of Daphne’s defining traits, she knows exactly what she wants and likes to think she knows what she has to do to get it, she’ll work hard for it and it’s unlikely that she’ll give up on a goal, the latest of which is to learn and eventually play, quidditch. Although intelligent, Daphne is probably little more than above average when it comes to book smarts, she is very much a practical person, and tends to learn by doing rather than reading, this is why she is more likely to succeed when it comes to practical exams rather than the theory. The academic subject that Daphne would most likely succeed in would be potions, being a very practical girl it is unlikely that she would have much trouble trying to make a potion, as long as she has a few tries where needed and a little bit of guidance.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Being driven definitely has its downsides though, knowing what she wants and how to get it actually makes Daphne very much a perfectionist, almost a little pedantic, she frets about the small details and knows exactly what is plausible for her, meaning if she doesn’t do as well as she knows she can, she can get very annoyed about it. Daphne has never been known for being the most mature in her family, she’ll laugh at anything even remotely rude and doesn’t look like she’ll grow out of that child-like humour anytime soon, her mother describes her as the oldest, but least mature and ladylike out of her two daughters, but follows her older brother in the immaturity stakes. Due to a mix of little interest and ability for fact based academics, Daphne is probably least competent at History of Magic, most likely due to a lack of interest and not because she is poor a remembering facts, a skill necessary to succeed in the subject.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: Daphne could belong in one of two houses, with her drive and perfectionism suggesting Slytherin, and her practical intelligence and eagerness to learn more would lend itself well to Ravenclaw. Daphne would probably find herself happiest in Ravenclaw, due to not really agreeing with the concept of one blood status being better than another, an attitude commonly associated with Slytherin house. Ultimately, Daphne would flourish in either house, but Ravenclaw would probably be first choice.
