Brief Childhood History: Henry grew up in a fairly secluded, pureblood family - at least by their standard, which means only one public ball every two years - and therefore had little to no contact with the crowd. He had no brother and sister, being an only child and an energetic one at that, which discouraged his mother from bringing him somewhere he could get lost without her having the tools and ability to relocate him under five minutes.
The Goodwinter family liked to claim that they were as famous and well-known as the Malfoys or Averies, but the truth was that they had nearly died out, due to the last generation having a Squib son and then another before that. This produced a cranky great-great-grandfather obsessed with getting his "family honor" back together and who pressed everything on Henry, seeing him as the clan's only hope. As a direct result, the free-spirited boy was on very bad terms with his eldest (living) relative, and strived to irritate him at every turn. One of the good things that come out of it was that Henry was generally more accepting of people of all classes and birth than most pureblood children raised in a house of pure-blooded people could claim.
Since his family was rarely visited, Henry was extremely close to the friends and associates he does have, although given the right incentive he would trick them into doing what he wanted them to do in order to get something. He usually shared the fruitation of his ventures with his associates, though, not that they liked him any more after the whole ordeal, even if it did succeed.
Henry was looking forward to Hogwarts, if only because he was going to be able to get away from Grandfather for most of the year and didn't have to confront anyone about anything.
Strengths: On the academic side: Transfiguration, the practical aspects of Charms and spellcraft theory when he was feeling lazy. On the personal side: fierce loyalty once you manage to cross that final line in a relationship, romance or otherwise. Rare moments of true compassion, where he's ready to do just about anything to achieve a "noble" objective.
Weaknesses: Astronomy, paperwork, a seriously criplling curiosity that had cost him more than "just a bit of affection". Averages in all other subjects. He only cares for those who were absolutely close to him (pretty much only his family, since he'd literally grown up with them), and in a moment of stress he could turn and flee at any time, leaving anyone else he'd dragged behind with him to fend for themselves. As a panic response. Needless to say, not a lot of people like to join him in his "adventures" which made Henry resorted to bribes and tricks.
Suitable House: Slytherin. Henry's conniving way will make him an outcast in Gryffindor if he actually lives with them. Hufflepuff would be disgusted at the things he was willing to do to achieve an objective. Ravenclaw would also be a fair fit, since it would give him assess to books and scrolls on a daily basis, except he has the thing about being lazy on a yearly basis. All in all, Slytherin fits best, where Henry would not be questioned openly of his motives because everyone minds their own business...to a degree. And Slytherin doesn't do direct confrotations.
