Brief Childhood History: Ellis is the third child of Ellen and Gerard Tate, a witch and muggle respectively. Ellen works for the ministry of magic, and Gerard is lieutenant in the army, based in Aldershot. Ellis' elder brothers, Kyle, 14, and Kent, 16, have both inherited their mother's magical abilities and are currently at Hogwarts. Both are proud members of Gryffindor, as was Ellen.
Ellis has spent the last few years desperately anticipating attending Hogwarts and, finally, her time has come! Her brothers are now overly protective of her, particularly Kent, despite their being general bullies when she was growing up.
Ellis doesn't have a sob story, really; she had a happy childhood with loving parents and siblings. Her father's mother, Harriet, is frightened of the concept of Ellen's magical abilities and is currently estranged. Harriet's ex-husband, Kent (the namesake of her eldest brother), is quite the opposite; he adores his grandchildren for everything they are, and thinks a lot of Ellen. The children spend their holidays with Kent Senior when their father is deployed elsewhere and their mother is working.
In terms of her education prior to Hogwarts, Ellis happily attended her local state school. Being the daughter of a lieutenant had its advantages; she was off-limits to the bullies, and her friends were safe under her protection. Academically, she performed fairly well; averaging in most subjects, but excelling in Science and, curiously, sport. She was not the most popular girl by any means, but she had a close, tight-nit circle of good friends.
She and her closest friends often spent their time by the canal that was located almost at the end of her garden. A forest backed the property, and the canal cut through it. There were adequate safety measures that kept the local children out of the water itself, but the bridges that crossed it were almost always occupied by a gaggle of kids. Ellis herself spent the majority of her free time -- the time she was most likely meant to spend doing her homework -- down there, competing in stone-skimming activities and the like.
Ellis had very little interest in homework, anyway - she knew she would end up at Hogwarts, where muggle subjects weren't important. Her mother maintained a strict policy, however: Ellis must pass every single subject if she wishes to go to Hogwarts. She was never really sure how serious this threat was, but it worked; Ellis passed every exam she had to take.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): When she applies herself, Ellis is a good student. She enjoys charms, DADA and transfiguration. She is outgoing, and often charges head-on into things without really thinking. She is loyal to a fault, but holds a grudge for a very, very long time.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): When Ellis becomes bored, she tends to switch off in terms of academia; hence, as she finds history of magic and potions fairly boring, she tends to perform poorly in them. As mentioned previously, she holds a grudge - especially if someone has somehow wronged someone she loves.
