Things to Keep in Mind as Classes Start!
« on: 13 Sep 2010, 03:35 am »
Heeeeeeeello forum at large~!

As our first round of classes (*cough*Astronomy, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration for years 1-7, and Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures, and Healing for years 3-7*cough*) goes up today, I'd like to ask you to keep a few things in mind when you toss your characters into the fray!!

1) All of our canons are played by real people who have lives outside the forum.
       - Please be patient with them; they are not steely robots with unlimited time and hearts made of steel.
       - They are reading your posts! No need to bold everything. Just a tidbit will do~
       - They want to interact with you, so interact with them!
       - They will reply as soon as they can, but again, they're busy people.

2) Lots and lots and lots of people participate in classes.
       - Please make sure you are posting in the appropriate class thread for your character's year. (All class threads are tagged for years---read the tags!)
       - Please keep your posts in classes to one post per day per thread so our teachers and fellow students don't get overwhelmed wading through tons and tons of posts that have nothing to do with them. (That's fourteen possible posts in a class thread, so you've got plenty of room to play!)
       - Try to interact with other students~! No one is gonna play with you if you aren't actively trying to include yourself in things. If your character is shy, place them next to someone who's already in the thread! Remember: fodder is your friend. You don't have to talk to interact.

3) Your momma wants you to actively participate in classes.
       - This is a Hogwarts school RPG. Use classes to develop your character's school life!
       - You need class threads to advance your character. The bare minimum requirement for using a class thread to advance is two posts per thread. Advancement mods looooove to see more than two posts though! We really want you to get something out of these threads.

4) Remember to keep it realistic!
       - Everyone is not a genius with a photographic memory and super mad magic skillz. It's okay to make your character good at something or make them horrible at something, but try to keep things balanced and give other people a chance to shine too.
       - Mess-ups usually make for more interesting classes, but don't be an attention-needy person. If your character explodes something in Potions, don't make them explode something in Astronomy too.
       - Also, firsties, hate to break it to you, but you just got to school. Remember that Hermione was a freak (thanks Hermione.) and your character shouldn't know everything because they haven't had a chance to learn it yet! All other students, same goes for you! Your characters are in school because they don't know everything there is to know about magic. Give your character a chance to learn and grow!

5) Class is class. Outside of class is outside of class.
       - All students are expected to behave in class. Points will be taken and detentions will be assigned for students who can't follow basic classroom rules. If your character repeatedly acts up in classes, your class privileges may be taken away if the staff feels it necessary.
       - All students are expected to dress appropriately for class. If the teacher has not specified special 'class wear' for an activity and you state your character is wearing something other than their uniform, they will be asked to change, get kicked out of class, or lose house points for breaking school rules. Keep it classy people!

6) Classes are always ((OPEN)) until they are locked. Even if it's been a few days, find a way to toss your character into the thread! It's not over 'til it's over after all~

7) Have fun! (Classes rooooooock~! And they provide an excellent opportunity for character torture. Bwahahaha!)

8) All class threads are 'free' threads. They do not count towards your thread count! (They do count towards your post count!)

This has been another wordy, extravagant announcement from your local Sabbi. Enjoy your class threads!
