The Sorting Hat (aka Character Sheets) / Emily Cleary - Approved [H]
« Last post by Emily Cleary on 09 Mar 2012, 10:33 am »
First and Last Name: Emily Cleary

Bloodline: Muggleborn
 Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Blue
General Build: Average
Height:  Average

Birthplace: London, England
Brief Family History: Emily was born blind to Sandra Cleary and Theo Jackson.  Her parents broke up soon after, partly because of her blindness and partly because they just weren’t compatible.  For three years it was just Emily and her mom in their loft.  Then Emily’s mom started dating Jason Thompson.  A year later, they were married, though Sandra chose to keep her maiden name.  Emily did her first magic on their wedding day.  She was frightened by the thought of her mother marrying Jason.  So she shrank her stepdad-to-be’s shoes.  They just assumed the shoes were lost.  A year after that, Emily got her first sibling, a girl named Maizie.

From five years old, Emily attended a school for the blind in London, where she learned to use a cane and read Braille.  She had three particular friends there: Jane, Mandy, and Tanya.  Sometimes, while brushing her friends’ hair for them, she would magically streak their hair with color, though none of them could see.  The colors usually faded pretty quickly, so the teachers never found out.

Emily got a second sister, Betsy, a few months before she got her Hogwarts letter.  When she got the letter, she of course couldn’t read it.  So she thought her mother was playing a prank on her when she read it out loud.  But a Ministry official was there to help explain.  Emily was more than ready to believe, it hadn’t been so long since she’d been listening to fairy tales on TV.  The Ministry representative was able to find a Muggleborn who knew Braille and was able to translate Emily’s spellbooks to that.

Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): Emily is bright and likes to spend hours reading her books of Braille.  So she should be an overall good student, particularly in a class that doesn’t require vision, such as History of Magic.  She is also attentive to things around her – well, she has to be, otherwise she’d never know where she is.  But it helps her to understand plenty of what goes on around her, even if she can’t see it.  So she would know when it’s time to chop up ingredients in Potions, even if she can’t see the ingredients.  She is diligent – she tries to keep up with her studies so she doesn’t have to try so hard in class.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): She is a loner because she finds it hard to work with people who aren’t used to accommodating her sight.  So when asked to partner up in Defense Against the Dark Arts or Transfiguration, she wouldn’t be the happiest person alive.  She gets absent-minded when she’s comfortable, so she might start daydreaming in the middle of a class and not know what’s going on after a while.  She tries to avoid this, but sometimes she can’t help it.  This is particularly true of History of Magic – she would do the reading, so the lecture might just be a repetition of what she read.  Some might consider her fussy because she keeps her spaces extraordinarily neat – so in Potions, she might waste time sweeping up small messes when she should be working.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: Hufflepuff.  Emily is incredibly fair-minded – she wishes the whole world would treat her like a normal person.  She is also loyal to a fault – mostly to her family.

« Last post by Sabbi on 07 Mar 2012, 08:37 am »
As you can see we're back up and running, though things are a little bit unpolished at the moment.

During our downtime, the database was cleaned up and our forum was upgraded to SMF 2.0.2.  SMF 2.x has many new things for you to play with, so take a look at all of our features, but don't necessarily get too attached---they may change a bit over the next month.

Please let me know if you encounter any suspiciously long page load times or any other issues over the next week by posting in the Technical Difficulties Thread.

All of our normal modifications (Owl Post Catalogue, the Chatroom, Dice Rolls, etc.) are disabled for the time being.

Thanks for your patience as we sort all of this out!

First and Last Name: Kaela Irisart

Bloodline: Halfblood
Hair Color: strawberry blonde
Eye Color: varying shades of medium blue
General Build: average
Height: average

Birthplace: Newtown : Great Britain
Brief Childhood History: Kaela lives in a cozy cottage with her family of six in the scenic countryside a little away from the hustle and bustle of Newtown. Kaela's mother is a kind, compassionate lady with long curly light brown hair and a beautiful porcelain face. She goes by the name of Nerilla and is a pureblood witch who attended Hogwarts back in her day. Nerilla fell for a handsome young man with strawberry blonde hair and crystal clear blue eyes. She knew this was the perfect man for her and in many ways he was. Nerilla and her newly announced husband Chase decided to move away from the busy streets of Newtown and start their own family in the beautiful countryside on the outskirts of the city they call home. Chase and Nerilla bought a tranquil cottage surrounded by wildly beautiful gardens and ponds, the perfect place to start and raise a family. Shortly after moving, Nerilla decided the time had come to reveal her biggest secret to her husband; the fact that she was a witch. With a heavy heart and an anxious mind, Nerilla determinedly told Chase her story; about Hogwarts, about witches and wizards, about everything she had lived through. The truth came as a real shock to Chase and there were many times when Nerilla expected him to leave her. But Chase, however astonished and shocked he may have been, told his beautiful wife how much he loved her and how it was going to take a lot more than a bit of magic to separate them. Nerilla, delighted and relieved, leaped into her husband's arms and after a couple of days, Chase was thriving to know more of and understand the magical world his wife was born and raised in. Astonished, Nerilla taught her husband all she knew, despite the fact he could not perform magic of any sorts.

A few months later, the couple was announced as the proud parents of a fine baby boy they named Kaiden. Kaiden grew to be strong and handsome, an almost perfect replica of his father. At the young age of two, Kaiden showed signs of magical activity and inheritance and was taught the basics and stories of magic by his loving parents. When Kaiden was four, Chase and Nerilla proudly announced the arrival of their second child, an exquisitely beautiful baby girl they named Kaela. Kaela looked like both her mother and father in appearance; she had her mother's perfect porcelain face and her father's blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair which curled and spiraled with natural grace.
Kaela too showed signs of a magical inheritance and before long was being taught by her parents alongside her brother.

The Irisart family lived happily for another four years and a short way into Nerilla and Chases's twelfth year together, proudly told of their newest family members, a twin boy and girl. Bliss and Aspen were identically gorgeous, both having their mother's light brown hair and their father's blue eyes. However, Bliss nor Aspen showed any signs of magical activity or inheritance. They were merely lovable, bouncing babies, strong and healthy and curious. Nerilla and Chase loved their family. The Irisart's became a common name in the small town of Newtown and the people of the town loved hearing about and seeing the family shopping and playing together like families should.
Now Kaiden is fifteen and is currently in his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Kaela, now eleven, is a proud first-year at Hogwarts rearing and ready to attack her first year of magic school with pride and enthusiasm. Although Kaela and Kaiden attend the same school, the two rarely see each other despite the fact that they are in the same house and share the same common room, dining area, etc.
Bliss and Aspen, now five, are currently attending what is considered one of the best (and most expensive) schools in Great Britain.

Kaela is looking forward to living at Hogwarts for the next year although she will miss her family hugely. Nerilla and Chase have promised to send their daughter weekly letters with the family's owl, Hwitcumb, and many presents and gifts at Christmas and Halloween. Many would say that Kaela's life is considered perfect. Kaela says although it may seem that way, everything is not what it seems ... most of the time.

Strengths (Including Personality and Academic): When it comes to learning and academic classes and activities, Kaela is not at her strongest points. Although she sometimes struggles with her schoolwork, Kaela does enjoy and excel in Herbology, Potions and Astronomy. Being raised in the countryside in a cottage surrounded by magical plants and fungi, Kaela has been well-educated in the herbology area with special theory and practical lessons from her mother. Living away from the busyness of cities and shops and people and factories, Kaela was also taught a lot about astronomy, ranging from stars and planets to meteorites and moons, having such a clear view of the night sky. With her father being an astronomic scientist and astronaut, Kaela, with a little help from her mother, soon knew the names of many planets and their thousands of moons and by the age of nine was happily charting the sky she had grown to love. Kaela also has an unusual talent for potions, despite the fact she knew nothing about the subject before attending Hogwarts. While Kaela is not the smartest crayon in the box, away from classes and teaching, she is a brave, spirited, bright, bubbly, loyal, honest and trustworthy young girl. She loves spending her weekends helping and hanging out with her friends and will go out of her way to ensure that the members of her Hogwarts family are safe and happy. Kaela treats and respects her family at Hogwarts the way she loves her parents and siblings. She loves celebrating the happy moments with them and sharing the heartbreak of the sad. Kaela would be lost without her families at Hogwarts and back home. She is outgoing and courageous and very fair and just, always ensuring that the right choices have been made and that everyone is respected and treated right and properly. Kaela always tries to look on the bright side of life no matter what the situation and will stand by her house through thick and thin. Although Kaela has many good personality traits, she also has some equally bad ones.
Weaknesses (Including Personality and Academic): Mentioned above was the fact that Kaela excels in Herbology, Potions and Astronomy. Sadly, these are Kaela's only 'good' subjects. In almost all her other classes she struggles to find the right answers to problems and is scared of raising her hand to ask that one question, or to guess what that right answer is. Having many smart and highly intelligent people in her classes, Kaela is afraid of what they will think of her when her work is handed up, or what results she will get in an exam or test. Her least favourite subject would have to be History of Magic, a subject she finds hard to pay attention to. Kaela has been known to go off into her own little world of daydreams during Professor Binns' lessons and therefor finds the assigned homework troubling and extremely hard to make out and understand due to her lack of interest and attention. The weaknesses on Kaela's emotional side are the fact that she can sometimes be very selfish. For example, she does not like sharing her things and can get snappy when her friends do things to annoy her. Kaela also likes to get things done in the smallest amount of time so she often comes across as bossy. Kaela Irisart is also an emotional girl. Although many will say there is nothing wrong with being emotional, Kaela occasionally feels down in the dumps due to the fact that she is easily upset by the cruel actions of others. Sometimes it only takes a whisper behind her back or a passed note in class holding a nasty lie about her and she struggles to hold back the tears. However, Kaela's mother and father have been working hard to use positive reinforcement with their daughter and Kaela is slowly overcoming her overemotional bumps in the road of life and is no longer upset by things that have previously drawn tears.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why: I believe Kaela should be in the house of Godric Gryffindor. Although Kaela is not the smartest nor the most obedient, she has a heart of pure gold and a strong-willed mind. Kaela is brave and courageous and is quick to stand up for those being  bullied or looked down on by the older students of Hogwarts. She is also quite daring yet trustworthy and bravely loyal, qualities the house of Gryffindor hold dear to heart. This is why I feel Kaela Irisart belongs in the house of Godric Gryffindor, the house of the brave, daring, nerve and chivalry.
