Brief Childhood History: Atticus Watson had never planned on falling in love with a muggle, simply because Jude never really planned anything. The son of a witch and wizard (though they themselves were halfblood and muggleborn respectively), Atticus grew up in the magical world where muggledom was viewed as quaint, if not a little unusual. But when Florence Simpkins crossed his path it quickly became apparent that life without her was not nearly as much fun. Both being of the artistic persuasion, each was a muse to the other, and when Atticus revealed his somewhat colourful ‘other life’, Florence was more than delighted. It was something of a whirlwind romance of course. Three months after first meeting each other, the two were shacked up in a little flat in London, sharing a studio which served as the creative house for their wayward splashes of paint.
Persephone was an accident. Though the couple loved children they had never planned one for themselves. To both Atticus and Florence it seemed quite a frightening prospect, not in the least because crying babies wreak havoc on one’s personal and creative life. Yet when Florence found out, after a week of violent vomiting, that a new life was on the way, they were each delighted enough to celebrate. In time they even began to incorporate Persephone-in-utero into their artwork. A portrait of Florence, stark naked except for the red paint on her swollen belly, hangs in the Watson living room.
Persephone Calpurnia Watson was born on the morning of December 12th. Her name was at once registered as unusual by the nurses on shift, yet Atticus and Flo would happily explain that it came from the Greek goddess responsible for the changing of the seasons. From this proclamation, no more questions were asked. They were a bit batty, bless them, the nurses would say of the mother and father.
It should be no surprise that Persey grew to be an creative soul. Though less artistically inclined than her parents she was quite imaginative and took an interest in a great number of things. One week it would be drawing, the next quilting. Architecture took her fancy at age 9 where she demanded to be shown the gothic monuments of Italy and began to wear a monocle. Four days later, it was knitting, then tarot cards, then pottery. A quick learner, the young girl mastered many things, although she tried a great deal more. This was Persephone in a nutshell. When she took particular interest in something, she would work at it until completely satisfied with her skill and any results she produced. Yet it always took her awhile to find the right extracurricular.
Her Hogwarts letter arrived at precisely 9:00am on her eleventh birthday. It was not unexpected for Persephone had shown her magical side a year earlier by floating the neighbour’s cat up to the second storey of the flat, much to the chagrin of the poor kitty. Persey of course was delighted as clearly there was nothing better than magic.
Strengths (Including Personality and Academic):
Being an only child with an outgoing personality, Persephone has already learnt to be a social chameleon. Happy, go-lucky and affectionate she generally charms those she meets. She considers a great many people to be friends and also has a tendency to appeal to the hearts of older students, leading to various ‘adopted’ siblings.
As mentioned below, Persey does not generally do well at school. It is only in Divination and more practical subjects such as Herbology that she excels. This is not because she is unintelligent, indeed, she is quite a quick learner, although the topic at hand requires her interest if she is to do well in it.
Persephone is also highly resourceful, a skill that will well serve her mischievous side.
Weaknesses:
Persey is not academically inclined and she finds school to be boring and somewhat stifling. Because she does not take an interest in it, her grades suffer and she remains a below average student in subjects such as Charms and Transfiguration. Teachers encouragements have not worked and are usually met with polite disinterest.
While Persephone is generally sociable, she can at time appear aloof, if not a little closed off. These periods are rare and she is usually quite a bubbly little girl, however feelings of loneliness and inadequacy often start them.
What House You Feel Your Character Belongs In and Why:
Slytherin! She is extraordinarily determined, despite appearing flighty and indecisive. Once she sets her sights on something she will pursue it doggedly until she achieves it. Typical only child.
